Porcelain Fillings FAQs

Dentist in Delta, British Columbia

Why choose porcelain fillings?

Metal amalgam fillings contain mercury, a toxic substance that can cause a variety of physical problems. Porcelain fillings contain no mercury at all, making them a safe alternative to amalgam.

In addition, porcelain fillings restore not just the structure, but also the appearance of your natural teeth, in finishes that recreate the color, texture, and translucency of your natural teeth.

Are porcelain fillings sturdy?

Yes. Older style porcelain fillings were only recommended for front teeth, as the materials used didn't have the strength and integrity to be used on the back teeth.

However, today's improved porcelain composites and light-curing techniques make today's porcelain composites sturdy and strong enough to stand up to wear and tear.

Are porcelain fillings safe?

Yes. We use only safe, biocompatible porcelain filling material for our porcelain fillings.

Can I be tested for biocompatibility of the materials to be used in my mouth?

Yes. Especially for our environmentally sensitive clients, we offer serum biocompatibility testing. This screens your blood sample to determine which dental materials would be most suitable for you, and which ones should be avoided. A substance which causes little or no reaction in one person can prove harmful for another.
