Tooth Erosion  

The part of your tooth that everybody sees is what dentists would call tooth enamel. Tooth enamel protects the bone and nerve tissues inside your teeth. Though originally designed to be an effective barrier against everything,  there are now some foods and drinks that can cause enamel to erode away, foods which our enamel has not evolved any protection against.

Normally, your mouth has enough saliva, enriched with enough of its own chemicals, to allow your teeth to protect themselves.  Too much of these harmful foods and drinks however, and your body starts to lose the battle.

The steps to avoiding this kind of damage are quite simple: limit the amount of time your teeth are exposed to such food and drink. Rinse out with water after eating an excessive amount, and allow at least an hour for your enamel to recover before brushing your teeth.
