KaVo Healozone
Dentists in Vancouver, British Columbia and the surrounding areas
The use of ozone in dentistry is a new, exciting development, and there’s a lot of research ongoing. Healozone™ is a device that creates ozone and directs it on to a decayed tooth. This kills the bacteria painlessly and quickly, with no drilling necessary.
How it’s done
Your tooth is first carefully cleaned.
Then the decay is measured by the KaVo DIAGNOdent™ unit, which gives a digital readout.
Your dentist uses this measurement to decide on the length of your treatment, which will be somewhere between 10 seconds and 40 seconds.
The tip of the handheld Healozone™ applicator is placed on your tooth and the right amount of ozone gently pumped over its surface.
Your tooth is then bathed in a remineralizing fluid. This neutralizes any acids left by the now-defunct bacteria, removes any last bits of ozone, and soaks minerals into the tooth.
During this treatment, you’ll feel no pain at all, nor hear anything except the soft beeping of the Healodent™ unit.
Follow-up
The bacteria have weakened your tooth’s enamel, and now that they’re gone, the next job is to strengthen your tooth again.
Your dentist will give you a kit to take home for follow-up, which contains Mineralised:
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Mouth spray
Use these for a few weeks to help your tooth continue its remineralization, to become hard and decay-resistant. Your tooth will be strong and intact again, fully mineralized, after about 3 months.
What is ozone?
Ozone is a natural gas produced by thunderstorms, and it can be man-made. It has very small molecules made up of 3 oxygen atoms bonded together. It’s very effective for eliminating bacteria, fungus, and viruses in both air and water.
Nobody is allergic to ozone, and bacteria are not able to become resistant to it.
Healozone™ is not yet available in the U.S. but in Canada and other countries (e.g. Ireland and New Zealand) it’s used for some dental procedures, mostly removing tooth decay.
You will be able to say this is the future if your dentist has treated you with ozone. Because there's a new technology for painless caries treatment.Caries bacteria are surrounded with ozone without manual contact and are killed in a matter of seconds - without an injection, without drilling, without pain and without side effects.
